The Contest

Round 1:

Each qualified contestant will be assigned an instructor.  The instructors will work with the contestants for 15 minutes teaching him/her the basics of the backing maneuver.  The contestant will then have 5 minutes to attempt the maneuver.  The maneuver will be scored on specific criteria. 

Round 2:

The top 3 scorers will be asked to return Saturday evening to attend the headline event for that evening.  When the first heat of the event is complete the final three contestants will receive some additional instruction and then re-attempt the maneuver.  The final maneuver will be scored and the winner will be announced on the spot.  

The Prize

The winner will receive a full tuition scholarship for the CDL A - 160hr. course; the runner up will receive a half tuition scholarship for the CDL A - 160hr. course; and the 3rd finalist will receive a $1000 scholarship towards the CDL A - 160hr. course. All contestants will receive a free PDI t-shirt.

 How to Register

To register, you must call Professional Driver Institute at (585) 436-2040 and set up an interview.  The meeting takes about 30 minutes.  If you qualify, you will be given a time slot and an admissions ticket to the Monroe County Fair for the day of the contest.  Deadline for registration is July 17^th at 12pm. Space is limited, so register today!

 How to qualify

1.   Must be 21 years of age or older.

2.    Must have a current and valid New York State driver’s license.

3.    Must not already posses or have possessed a CDL-A.

4.    Must be able to pass a DOT Physical and drug screen.

5.    Must not be a current student or already enrolled with PDI.

6.    Must have attended the scheduled information meeting and received a time slot.

7.    All contestants must be signed-in at their designated time on the day of the contest.

8.    Must be able to compete in the final round on Saturday evening (7/18/09) at 8pm.  Failure to show will result in immediate disqualification.

9.    Must have a “can-do” attitude.
